About Accounting Society

Accounting Society is a student organization committed to providing opportunities for networking and development that ultimately lead to successful career placement of our members. It is one of the biggest organizations on campus, and is mainly comprised of students within the Accounting Department.

Our three main objectives are
     1. To expose our members to the largest number of options within the accounting field that will allow them to make an educated decision for their future,
     2. To offer numerous opportunities for interactions and networking between members of Accounting Society and industry professionals,
     3. To provide a forum for communications and collaboration between our members to help them develop strong relationships with fellow students.

Activities

       Weekly Meetings
Our weekly meetings are the main resource for our members. Every Wednesday, guest speakers from various industries within accounting field come to speak about the organization they represent, their working environment, recruiting process, and career opportunities with their company. Often times the speakers present information about interviewing and resume building skills and share other knowledge that could be helpful for successful landing and further development of member’s careers.

      Firm Tours
Firm tours present another opportunity for our members to familiarize themselves with the environment and people within organizations that provide accounting services. While visiting offices of CPA firms and companies in other industries, Accounting Society members get a chance to network and get to know human resources and other professionals much closer than in any other general professional event.

       Mock Interviews
Representatives of top firms help members to develop their interviewing skills by conducting mock interviews in a realistic atmosphere. After interviews, participating students are provided feedback about their answers, body language, and overall performance. They are also given suggestions for improvements that could be made for their next interview.

       Social Events
Accounting Society members get a chance to interact with each other during various social events offered by the club. Some of them include bowling and volleyball tournaments within or with other clubs; BBQs, picnics, and karaoke.

       Community Service Events
Through these events, members of our Society are given an opportunity to help the local community. Throughout the quarter members will participate in beach and park cleanings, food bank, meal services for the homeless, crafts in senior homes, tree planting, and other events.

       Leadership and Teambuilding Opportunities
Most importantly, all Accounting Society members are allowed to take on a range of leadership positions within the club and develop skills vital to their future career development. Every two quarters the society holds an election. All members have an opportunity to run for an officer or a coordinator position. Some of them include President, Vice President of Public Relations, Secretary, Treasurer, Webmaster, and Historian. All elected members are then working closely in a team to constantly develop and improve the Accounting Society.
